MORTGAGE PAYMENT PROTECTION INSURANCE
Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance is designed to pay a monthly benefit in the short term if you are out of work due to accident, sickness or unemployment.
There are also schemes for Rent Protection Payment Insurance which does the same to protect your rental payments for the same.
Also known as Accident Sickness and Unemployment cover, or ASU for short, this type of cover will replace your income at a specified level, usually the monthly mortgage payment and associated household bills such as council tax.
In the event of having an accident, suffering an illness of being made redundant the policy will pay a monthly sum, usually after what is called a deferment period (usually 30 days).
This policy is the cheapest form an income protection as the cover is usually limited to covering mortgage payments and associated household bills. Policies can provide cover for 12-24 months dependant on the policy selected.
